There have been many times in my life where I have been privileged to see the Lord's hand guiding me and others to those in need. I also have no idea of many things which I do or others do that have made great changes in others lives. Just a few weeks ago I was prompted to answer the question of a random guy on a street, that one answer led to a 15 minute conversation, where I learned this man and his friend were less active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was able to bear a simple testimony to them. I will probably never get to see them ever again and I don't know what difference I made in their lives, but in the next life I will get to see them again and give them a high five!
I remember as a youth going to the majestic redwood forest with my family. My parents ended up buying a small simple souvenir, a few seeds to grow my own redwood tree. These seeds were tiny, so tiny I ended up losing them before the end of our trip. But those small seeds have the power to make a big difference. As we look at ourselves compared to the many great and wonderful creations which God has made, we look tiny and insignificant, just like these seeds. But God has given us the power to make a difference in this world.
Many great things start with small and simple steps. The grand canyon started out as just a small stream figuring out what direction to go. The Great Wall of China, and the Pyramids of Egypt were started by laying stone upon stone. We can and must make these small and simple steps the help out this world. I have heard of the many people who have felt alone and ready to give up in this world. They felt they weren't important, and that no one loved them. Their circumstances and feelings led them to make a tragic choice of committing suicide. I have also heard of many people who felt the need to go visit, call or write a friend or a coworker just to see how they are doing, not knowing why. Some of them later finding out and others not finding out that they stopped these people from committing suicide. They brought that feeling of being loved and warmth back into their lives. Even in my own life I have had days which were miserable, and I felt like no one loved me, or that I had just finished the hardest race in my life, and there was no one there to congratulate me on the finish. But then out of nowhere I receive a call, text, letter or visit from someone saying they were thinking of me and gave me that feeling of warmth! I would say that this is the greatest feelings in the world!
So I would like to challenge you all to open your eyes and ears to the whisperings of the Spirit and your surroundings. When you feel like you need to call someone, DO IT! When you see someone looking down, give them words of comfort and brighten their day. This world is falling into turmoil, and it is all our fault. We are pointing out the wrongs of others instead of helping them recognize their amazing characteristics. After all, we all make mistakes and we all make right choices. And we all need opportunities to let our smile and light shine!
