Frozen in our Trials

Here on this earth we all get to experience experiences! Some of these experiences come out as blessings and wonderful times of joy. While the others are are trials and times where we want to just go and cry into our pillows. God blesses us all with different kinds of experiences for our benefit. Sometimes we are blessed with a reindeer who likes to eat our carrots, other times we are blessed with magical powers where everything we touch turns to snow or ice and everyone is scared to even look at you. Sometimes we are blessed with a bishop who doesn't have the same views as us. Or maybe we get chased by wolves and our nice new sled ends up going over a cliff. Or maybe a loved one passed away. Or maybe we are a snowman in the summer. We all have these trials, but it is how deal with them that counts.
While on my mission I ran into my people who has stopped going to church because someone said a stupid thing about how their hair was a bit unkempt. Also there were many people who stopped talking to a good friend or family member because they said a silly remark about there weird shaped feet. There was also people who judged an entire group of people just because of what one of them did.
We all are human, we all make mistakes and we all do stupid things. Why should we get all worked up and angry at things which others do? If you were to view others lives through their eyes, or feel the blisters on their feet, we would feel sorry for them, and would want our trials back.
Joseph Smith had many trials in his life. While he was in Liberty Jail he was pleading with God for comfort for him and the Saints, and we got the following answer:
"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment: And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes...Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job...No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile."
God does know each and everyone of us by name. He knows our weaknesses and our trials, he will always send us comfort. He also sends us these trials for our benefit. We go through a "refiners fire," and become the precious jewel we are meant to become. We learn that even though the reindeer takes bites out of our carrots, we can still wash them off and enjoy them. With the curse of ice touch we can build beautiful ice castles.
While I was on my mission I had a companion that I hated, and I didn't like that. My hatred was a hindrance to the work. It put me into sorrow and made me mad at myself. But I didn't know how I could love him, I could I love someone who made me mad and full of hatred? I did all that I knew how to do, pray. God told me that I needed to come up with a list of at least 5 things I loved about my companion. I thought it was going to be impossible, but I was able to do it, and I am so glad I did. My love increased so much for him, and I was able to learn more about myself. It also has helped me to learn how to love everyone.
Everyone is worth melting for! Let it Go!

5 Way to Show Our Love for God

"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like, unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." All Christians have heard these verse of scriptures, but how many actually follow these two commandments? We should all know that Christ has said that "If ye love me, keep my commandments." So we should know how to follow the first great commandment, but how do we follow the second one? How do we love our neighbor? How do we love our neighbor when our neighbor doesn't love us? How do we love our neighbor when they believe in something we don't? I say in order for us to love our neighbor we must learn how to follow the second part of the second greatest commandment. Let's look at it another time, "Tho...

A Bible, a Bible, we have no need for a Bible!

This day in age I hear about many people who say that we don't need to read or follow the teachings in the Bible anymore. These writings are old and dusty, and what benefit can we get from it? But I know that if we take the time to read and study this great book, we will gain a greater knowledge of what is required of us in this life, the joy of eternal life, and will be prepared for things which are to come. There are three main religions which take root from the Bible. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. These three religions cover more then half of the world's population. If the Bible influences more then half of all people, shouldn't we use it more? Here is a list of benefits of reading/studying the Bible: 1.   The testimony of the existence of God. 2.   The history of the beginnings of mankind as a divine race placed on the earth for eternal, divine purposes. 3.   The importance of establishing a covenant relationship with God. 4.   The history an...

To Make a Mistake or Not?

Today in institute the topic was Adam and Eve. It reminded me of a story on my mission. There was about 4 of us missionaries sitting at a Wendy's, enjoying our food, when one of the workers there came over to us, and started telling us how we are wrong about Eve, saying her church taught that Eve is one of the most evil people ever. She listened to the devil, she followed his words, and then in turn tempted Adam, and made him partake of the fruit as well. And Adam did no wrong in this incident. There are many different points of view on this topic, and the Bible doesn't have every single detail. I am grateful that we have been blessed with additional scripture to help us better understand God's ways, and the lives of those who lived before us. Once Adam and Eve were created by God, God gave them 2 main commandments, multiply and replenish the earth, and do not partake of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. We don't know how long they were in the garden of E...
